Apple phone line to include "smart phone"?
In a research note sent to clients, Prudential analyst Jesse Tortora said he expects Apple's entry into the cell phone market will include at least two phone offerings.
What Mr. Tortora adds to the mix surrounding Apple's phone plans is that one of the phones might be a more robust "smart phone", sporting a keyboard and Wi-fi capability.
In the last month, the first cell phones with Wi-fi have launched in the U.S., enabling users in range of a Wi-fi network to take advantage of the Internet to conduct calls in a manner akin to VoIP, saving their minutes for when not in range of Wi-fi network. It's unclear if Apple's phone would mimic this functionality, although Cingular, which sources say will have an exclusive on Apple's phone, has yet to roll out any such products.
Apple is expceted to bring its first phone to market in January 2007.
