I posted this originally on my vox: http://successlessness....uitar.html (it is a music blog that I am writing with four other people). I wasn't sure where to place this item, since it's not exactly tech and it's not exactly apple!

Here's a tip I picked up a while back: how to add your own icons to your local hard drive and/or ipod. These are instructions for PC, I don't have a mac (despite the mac logo).
1. Create your own *.ico file or find one on the web. There's a few free (trial) icon maker...

Cute, huh?

Apple said Wednesday that results for its fiscal 2007 first quarter ended December 30, 2006 included record revenue of $7.1 billion and record net quarterly profit of $1.0 billion, or $1.14 per diluted share.
During the quarter, Apple shipped 1,606,000 Macintosh computers and 21,066,000 iPods, representing 28 percent growth in Macs and 50 percent growth in iPods over the year-ago quarter.

As if its options woes weren't trouble enough, Apple said Friday it is facing several federal lawsuits, including one alleging the company created an illegal monopoly by tying iTunes music and video sales to its market-leading iPod portable players.
The case, filed July 21, is over Apple's use of a copy-protection system that generally prevents iTunes music and video from playing on rival players. Likewise, songs purchased elsewhere aren't easily playable on iPods.
The plaintiff is seeking unspecified damages and other relief. The court...

This personal music studio ($40) connects to an iPod or similar musical device with an audio output and allows you to create your own digital mixing effects, such as scratch, digi-sound and voice.
The mixer has two discs that, when rotated or scratched, produce up to six different background rhythms and fill-in sounds, three drum fills and three voice effects.
Volume and tempo controls allow you to adjust sound levels so you can hear your effects accompany songs played through the iPod.
Mixer can be attached to a Mac or PC for saving,...

In an extensive research note released to clients earlier this week, Prudential analyst Jesse Tortora said the first and slimmer of Apple's initial two cell phone models will look like an iPod with a small screen and a click wheel interface.
"Apple has mentioned several times that music experience is its top priority and that it would not do anything to comprise that," the analyst wrote. "We believe that the music phone will be true to these statements and should be considered a music player that has phone capabilities rather than a phone...

Universal Music Group Chief Executive Doug Morris said on Tuesday he may try to fashion an iPod royalty fee with Apple in the next round of negotiations in early 2007.
Universal was the first major record label to strike an agreement with Microsoft to receive a fee for every Zune digital media player sold.
"The Zune deal was an amazingly interesting exercise, to end up with a piece of technology," he told the Reuters Media Summit.

Bono, with help from Oprah Winfrey and other celebrities, is partnering with Apple Computer on a red-colored iPod to promote his new charity aimed at battling AIDS, AppleInsider has learned.
Both and the famed talk show host will publicly unveil the new "iPod nano Red" -- a 4GB version of Apple's second-generation iPod nano in a red anodized aluminum enclosure -- on national television this friday.
The two celebrities swung by Apple's North Michigan Ave. retail store in Chicago, Ill. on Thursday afternoon to film a promotional segment...

Microsoft on Thursday official unveiled its Zune digital media player but refused to provide pricing details, likely because it was caught off-guard by Apple Computer's aggressive new pricing on its video iPod line, one Wall Street analyst says.
"Microsoft formally announced its Zune portable media player, with specs in-line with Toshiba FCC filings," American Technology Research analyst Shaw Wu told clients on Friday. "However, pricing and timing were not revealed likely because our sources indicate that Apple's aggressive pricing at $249...

Remember all that talk of Creative beating Apple to the punch with patenting various elements of the iPod's UI? Today these talks came to an end, with Apple whipping out the checkbook, and Creative (I'm assuming) throwing a party. That's right: Apple has shelled out USD $100 million to Creative for "a paid-up license to use Creative's recently awarded patent in all Apple products." Fortunately, Apple might be able to get some of that cash back if Creative is successful in suing their way to profitability licensing their patents to anyone else.
