As if its options woes weren't trouble enough, Apple said Friday it is facing several federal lawsuits, including one alleging the company created an illegal monopoly by tying iTunes music and video sales to its market-leading iPod portable players.
The case, filed July 21, is over Apple's use of a copy-protection system that generally prevents iTunes music and video from playing on rival players. Likewise, songs purchased elsewhere aren't easily playable on iPods.
The plaintiff is seeking unspecified damages and other relief. The court...

The leading DRM digital download service, Apple's iTunes, has experienced a collapse in sales revenues this year according to analyst company Forrester Research.
Secretive Apple doesn't break out revenues from iTunes, but Forrester conducted an analysis of credit card transactions over a 27-month period. And this year's numbers aren't good.

"4301.045" = "Are you...

The iPod manufacturer insists that all songs on an album are on sale individually — a major boost for sales of single tracks, now at a record high, but depressing album sales, where the...

On Tuesday, August 22nd, the podcast “Sex is Fun” reached the top 100 list (73 to be exact) on iTunes for the very first time. At 8:08 PM on the very same day the producers of “Sex is Fun” received an email from Apple Computer stating that their podcast had been “rejected from iTunes” though neglected to state the reason for being kicked out of the iTunes directory.
“It seems that iTunes has begun some form of morality cleansing as we are not the only podcast that had been removed from the list.” Stated, Kidder Kaper, the...

Apple has struck a defiant stance with Scandinavian regulators, staunchly defending its right to make its iPod the only portable music player compatible with songs purchased from the company's iTunes music store.
Norway's consumer agency on Wednesday released non-confidential portions of Apple's 50-page response to their claims that the company is violating contract and copyright laws in their countries.
The Norwegian regulators expressed disappointment with the limited concessions offered in the response, received Tuesday. In Sweden,...
